FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I primarily treat children who are early intervention age (0-3 years old), preschool age (3-4 years old), and school age (5-21 years old). Feel free to reach out, regardless of your childโs age!

I treat a variety of delays and disorders. Hereโs a list of some (but not all) areas I can work on: pre-language skills, joint attention, feeding and expanding restrictive food repertoires, receptive language, expressive language, communication modalities (AAC), social skills and pragmatic language, articulation and sound errors, phonology and phonetic skills, behavior management as a result from communication deficits, and parent coaching.

Most children would benefit from private speech therapy services! Some examples of children who would benefit are, but not limited to: children who did not qualify for early intervention programs, but parents are concerned and want supplemental support for development; children who have articulation errors; children who have concerns outside of what their current services receive; children who are homeschooled, but speech services were recommended by your district or pediatrician.
-
This often happens to our clients! Private speech services are a great option to address any needs or concerns that are present. If your child does not meet the criteria for early intervention or school services, they may still have a delay or benefit from services. I can often work with your most recent evaluation to help create an individual treatment plan, unique to your child and their needs!

I currently provide services in the clientโs home and throughout the community in Rhode Island. Providing services in your home allows me to target skills in the childโs natural environment, giving the greatest opportunity for functional therapy and generalization. By providing services in your home, not only is the child comfortable in their environment, but you/your family can be involved in the therapy process, which supports carryover skills and, ideally, faster progress.

Speech-language therapy sessions are usually scheduled for 45 minutes. This includes direct treatment (time the therapist is working with the child) and communication/training with parents or caregivers. Feeding therapy may be considered for a longer therapy session (60 minutes) if appropriate. Parent coaching sessions are scheduled in 15 minute intervals, depending on your familyโs wants/needs.
Sessions can be scheduled around your familyโs schedule and your childโs school hours! Additionally, a limited number of Saturday sessions are available for my clients. I will help you create a schedule that works for you and your family when you first start!

I am currently a private pay practice and an โout of networkโ provider for insurance companies. This assures that all therapeutic decisions for your child are made based solely on professional expertise and not on health insurance policies. Being a private pay provider means that you pay my rate at the time of service and then have the option to submit documentation, called a โsuperbillโ, to your insurance company for reimbursement. Since I do not deal with insurance companies directly, I always recommend that you contact your insurance company directly to determine what is covered and what exclusions may apply.
I offer a variety of payment options, including credit, debit, cash, and checks. Most travel expenses are inclusive in the cost of therapy; however, additional travel fees may apply for homes outside of my service radius. I will go over all of these options with you when beginning services.

Your sessions are very important to me. Not only is this time reserved specifically for you, but clients and families must participate in scheduled sessions in order to make progress. However, I understand that sometimes schedule adjustments are necessary and respectfully request at least 24 hour notice prior to your scheduled appointment time for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations and โno showsโ are subject to a fee for the scheduled time. The cancellation policy and all other policies in your initial intake paperwork should you have more questions.
